Why Every Louisville Business Needs a Google Business Profile in 2025
The map pack is the new yellow pages
When a Louisville homeowner searches "plumber near me," Google shows three businesses above the regular results. That's the map pack — and it drives the majority of local clicks. If your business isn't there, the search may as well not exist.
A Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is what gets you in. It's free, it takes about an hour to set up well, and it's the single highest-leverage marketing asset a local business can own in 2025.
What changed in 2025
Google has quietly turned the profile into a full mini-website. You can now publish posts, list services with descriptions, accept bookings, run Q&A, and surface reviews — all without anyone visiting your actual site. For a lot of small businesses, the profile is the front door.
That's good news and bad news. Good, because you don't need a fancy website to start collecting leads. Bad, because your competitors are already optimizing theirs while you're not.
The five things that move the needle
- Category accuracy. Pick the most specific primary category. "Pizza restaurant" beats "Restaurant" every time.
- Photos, weekly. Profiles with fresh photos get 35% more clicks. Phone shots are fine.
- Reviews with replies. Google rewards businesses that respond. Reply to every review, even the bad ones.
- Service descriptions. Don't leave the service list blank. Each service is a keyword you can rank for.
- Posts. A new post every 7–14 days signals to Google that the listing is active.
A Louisville-specific note
Local intent in Louisville is strong — searches for "in Louisville KY" or specific neighborhoods like St. Matthews, Highlands, or Middletown convert at much higher rates than generic searches. Mention your service area explicitly in your profile description and posts.
Where to start this week
Claim your profile if you haven't. Audit the categories. Take ten photos. Write five service descriptions. Reply to your last twenty reviews. That alone will move you a couple of spots in the map pack within a month.
If you'd rather not do this yourself, this is the kind of work we handle for clients on our Premium and Enterprise plans.
